Some of the biggest Blue marlin caught have been landed either by local hand liners or rod and reel in Tahitian waters. Famous author Zane Grey also visited and wrote about the tropical paradise. Infact, Zane Grey caught the blue marlin world record on 80lb line, fishing out from Tahiti. A fish of 1040lbs. Other large fish include tahiti's most famous fish caught in Raiatea. The fish was caught by a local hand liner and weighed in at 1560lbs. There is a photo in the Raiatea market place of this fish being weighed. Other significant catches include blue marlin of 1100lbs and 1307lbs as well as nurmerous over 1000lbs.
